Wanborough Vs Greenmeadow

Wow some Sunshine and a played match….there is a rare thing!

A good effort was shown from all. Well done to Keiran for Player of the Match. Goalie is a tough job and he made some good saves. Other special mentions for Rudran and Toby for goals and a major improvement note to James,who I am told was very focused and really played his heart out. The defence also did some excellent work

Good points from this match:

· Lots of passing

· Good, legal tackles

· Listening better to guidance

· Staying positive when down on score line

· Good sportsman ship

Learning points

· It’s good to pass- we need to work on deciding when to pass and when to take the ball forward. Also once you have passed making sure that if you are attack or midfield that you follow the ball and try and get in front of it, or tackle for it if its gone to the other team. If there is no-one to pass to then you may have to go for a brave run towards the goal

· We want you to behave well but aggression and passion are a big part of the game. So long as it is focused on the ball and the desire to get it, that’s fine

· Professional players make mistakes in the heat of the game: Handballs, fouls, pass to other team, let in goals, score own goals. No-one should ever feel bad about these things. Often these things happen when you are trying your best. Important thing is to try and stay focused after a mistake and just move on

Fairford Match

Well done to the 6 players that played today. Get well soon to James, Harry, Keiran and Thomas. Always sensible to rest up if you are not well.

A very exciting match . Wanborough who played extremely well as a team and had a few bits of bad luck. Particularly well done as we had no substitutes, so all had to play the entire match.

Man of the match went to Joe for some skillfull defending and passing. Excellent goalie work from Aaron and Toby, who were both excellent in defence and I was very impressed by your willingness to take on these roles, even though you are often keener to be forward. A very mature attitude, thank you. Without good defence we would have had a much higher score line.

Jesse (fresh from his sick bed) showed real guts (and I hope you are having a nice rest now.) Rudran as ever was Mr Focused, really working hard on tackles and bringing the ball forward. In spite of a late arrival Daniel soon got into mode in midfield. With some nice clearing and good passing.

In general passing was at some moments really quite excellent. You were all looking for each other. Some lovely defensive work and good tackles

Learning points: Try to decide on a player from the other team who you are going to try and keep with and prevent getting the ball. If I shout ‘[Mark Up’ this is what I mean. Especially if the other team are throwing on, have a free kick or have a corner.

If Wanborough are throwing on the person throwing needs to be quite quick, so that the other team have less time to get marking. They need to throw ‘down the line’. This means throwing it, in the direction of the opposition goal, along the side of the pitch, keeping it away from the centre.

If you are receiving a throw on, make sure you are positioned towards the opposition goal. Don’t stand too close to the person throwing on. Move around to make yourself hard to mark, and shout out ‘pass’ to the person throwing down.

If you are in defence. It’s fine to come forward sometimes. Many a good goal is scored by a skilled defender. However, If both defenders come too far forward then we make our goal easy for the other team. At least one of you will stay back. If the other team leave an attacker near the goal, someone must stay with them

If you are in attack you need to make sure that you are glued to the ball or ahead of the ball when it comes into our scoring half. This will mean running like mad once you see a team mate bringing it up towards our scoring end as they will need someone to pass to.

Maybe have a look at these with your parents and pick one that you think you would like to work on in the next match. You can’t do everything!

Mud Madness

Well done all on a great couple of matches today.

Players of the matches – Thomas in the first match for really working hard in his first full match, and staying focused and following direction form the sides. Charlie for some magnificent work bringing the ball forward and good tackles.

Special mentions: All of the Y squad were fantastic. They had no substitutions and we could see them learning as the time went by, more and more about positioning and rules .Annabelle, James and Adam did some great tackles and managed to really do their jobs. Harry, Charlie and Daniel were great at picking up the ball and taking it past the other teams defence. Big thanks for Joe and Aaron for providing the ‘muscle ‘in goal. For this group the key things is staying focused, remembering to mark other players. The more that you all play matches you will find it easier to hold your position and think about other players and not just where the ball is. Most of all I want toyu to enjoy it. I saw lots of smiling , if muddy, faces today…which is great.

Team Z played very well indeed. Really well done to Joe and Rudran who scored magnificent goals. Very good defensive work from Aaron and a great debut from Thomas. Excellent team work from Daniel H and Toby. Some really good goal coverage from Andrew in the first half kept us out of trouble. This team needed to work on getting players ahead of the ball so that there is someone there to pick up passes. Less dribbling and more passes would also help us to make good use of space and take more opportunities at goal.

Will hopefully have other chances to play two teams. I think it gave everyone chance to shine.

We are home next week against Fairford. Please can you let me know availability, if you haven’t already, and I will let you know the squad later in the week

Wanborough vs Shrivenham

A good match today that gave a few players a chance to show their attacking /scoring skills. Joe S, Rudran and Daniel K all scored. Jesse won Player of the Match for his persistent midfield work, feeding some great goals. Good to have a few of our new and less experienced players out today for at least half the match. Everyones’ stamina is massively improved from the first few weeks; marking is improving and has potential to get lots better. Overall playing much more as a team.

One learning point is that whilst we want players to be passionate, we also need players to keep emotions under some control, particularly with other players and referees. We get marked by other teams in relation to our sportsmanship, so it is important to work on this as well as our football skills

Well done to all the U7 squad who played today. A cracking goal and a great penalty from Joe earned him Player of the Match.

Saw some real improvement in passing- great work from Daniel H and marking. The team really came together in the second half and all managed to keep up the whole 30 minutes without looking like they were flagging. Welcome to Charlie- great first match for you

Wanborough Vs Lyden

I am not sure if all the parents are up to the stress levels of these nail biting matches. It was a 2-1 defeat by Liden. However, it was undoubtedly the best I have seen the team play and they were unlucky not to draw. I saw some excellent team work, good passing, tactical kicking, strong tackles out and at times some good marking. WELL DONE. It was a tough match today with a big team to play in every sense.

Well done to Toby for some top rate goalkeeping winning Man of the Match. Special mentions for Daniel K for really good tactical defending, Joe for a great goal, Jesse for being in the right place for some brave attempts at the goal, Annabelle for standing her ground and tackling even though many of the opposition were twice her size and George and Harry for managing to pick up their role quickly every time they went on.

All played well. Keep it up

See you all at Zurich tomorrow night. No training in half term and no matches until 4^th November. Please try and do a bit of practice over the half term if you can and have a nice break

Lambourn Vs Wanborough

A defeat at 3-2 but well playes with a few heart in mouth moments (for the poor stressed out parents spectating) where we nearly equalised

Congratulation to Rudran on a well deserved Player of the Match for his excellent defending and for following my directions to the letter. Joe and Toby were our goal scorers (first of the season for Toby- well done) and a cracker off a free kick fro Joe.

I also need to give a special mention to Jesse who did some fantastic work in the second half and if luck had been on his side would have equalised
